Castle Sands, A Little Suite for Chamber Orchestra, 2026, 4 movements inspired by the composer's time as an undergraduate at St Andrews University. The evocative melody played on a clarinet at the opening of the 1st movement is considered by the composer to be one of the highlights of his melodic writing. A bassoon picks up the thread in the 2nd while the piquant humour in the 3rd perhaps reminds us of Prokofiev in one of his cheekier moods. And listen out for the wash of the sea in the final movement before the coda completes the suite with a playful nod to the Scots. Running time: 7 mins. 20. Price: £8 inc. UK p&p.
